Job Details
Provides professional nursing care to patients in varying states of health and illness. Working closely with the preceptor during the initial orientation period, the Staff Nurse functions as an essential member of nursing and multidisciplinary teams providing direct care to patients and families, teaching, and preparation for continuing care after discharge.
Course Description
UVM Medical Center offers a new graduate residency perioperative nursing course developed by The Association of Operating Room Nurses (AORN). The purpose of this course is to prepare the registered nurse for entry level practice in perioperative nursing with a focus on intraoperative care. The course consists of a didactic online web based learning modules along with a preceptored clinical experience. Emphasis will be placed on performing functions directly related to circulating and scrubbing in the operating room. A rotation through various services (ENT/Dental, Plastics, General, GYN, GU, daVinci Robotics, CVT, Ortho, Neuro, Eyes, Sports Medicine, and IV Sedation) occurs during this internship. After orientation, the position will include an "On Call" component as well as an off shift rotation. Upon successful completion of the AORN web based course, the intern will receive a certificate of completion and 41.7 CEUs.
Additional Information:
- The start date options include June 24, 2024 and September 3, 2024.
- NCLEX- RN must be passed prior to the start of the program.
- This is a full time, plus call, position once orientation is complete. No per diem or part time hours will be granted.
- Periop 101 RNs will orient to the Main Campus and Fanny Allen Campus Operating Rooms.
- Orientation will include an AORN Periop 101 Test at week 21. Completion of Periop 101 Certification will be issued, and orientation will continue.
- Buddy call begins at week 23 of orientation. Call is assigned by management and a 30-minute proximity to UVMMC is required while on call.
