Please note this is a full-time, exempt 40 hours a week position.

*External candidates are eligible for an Allied Health Bonus between $3000-$5000 based on experience. Additional terms and conditions apply, paid over a 2-year period.

Position Summary:
The Medical based Speech-Language Pathologist provides care to patients at this Level I Trauma Center in various stages of illness. Opportunity is available in Acute Care, IP Rehabilitation, and in Outpatients. Although located at different sites we operate as one department in order to support staff time off and clinical education to diversify skill sets. Each SLP does has a home base to allow for championing areas of expertise. The speech-language pathologist (SLP) functions as an essential member of therapy and multidisciplinary teams providing direct care to patients. SLPs provide evaluation and differential diagnosis of the communication, voice, cognitive and/or swallowing disorder, treatment, compensatory strategies, and education and counseling to the patient, family, or care provider. Across the continuum of care, our SLPs work with children, youth, and adults, with various disorders and diseases that are considered medically based and help meet the needs of trans and gender-diverse youth and adults, as well as providing AAC services.

In the Outpatient setting, diagnostic groups include people with Voice Disorders, Neurological diseases, Head and Neck Cancer and those transitioning. The OP clinician has opportunity to work with ENT Surgeons in Voice Clinic, Neurologists in ALS and Movement Disorders Clinic and the Muscular Dystrophy Clinic. FEES are available. SLPs demonstrate dedication to professional growth and development and to the continuous improvement of patient care. The SLP may be involved in consultative services within the organization and in the community.


In the Acute Care setting, diagnostic groups include patients with trachs/vents, brain injuries, strokes, debility and a host of other neurological diseases, along w/ patients who have had a laryngectomy. The Acute Care model is mostly a consultative model of care, depending upon the caseload volume. Patients who work on Acute provide Video fluoroscopic Swallowing Studies and use the TIMS system for recording. FEES are available.

Education:
Master's Degree from an Accredited Speech-Language Pathology program. Clinical certification (CCC's) or eligible to receive CCC's from ASHA. Licensed to practice speech-language pathology in the State of Vermont.

Experience:
The qualified SLP needs to have a generalist background, working with adults using best practice and evidence-based models in the areas of Aphasia, Communication-Cognitive Disorders, Dysphagia and Voice Disorders. Weekend and holiday work is an expectation on a rotation basis, shared by all SLPs. Understanding of insurance systems, including Medicaid, and ICD-10 codes is a bonus. Documentation is via EPIC, an electronic medical record system. The Speech-Language Pathology department works in a team environment. We have 10 SLPs that collaborate across the continuum of care.
