GENERAL SUMMARY:

The Sterile Processing and Distribution Technician is responsible for the centralized cleaning, decontamination, storage, processing, assembling, issuance, and preparation of medical and surgical supplies and equipment. The technician must perform tasks quickly and efficiently paying close attention to detail and understanding the principals involved in each task performed. The technician also maintains infection control standards for the health and safety of hospital patients and personnel. The technician is responsible for assisting with the department daily activities including work flow, prioritizing job tasks.


QUALIFICATIONS:

Education/Skills Required:
1. High school diploma or GED.
2. Registered Central Service Technician (RCST) must be obtained within 18 months of hire unless applicant provides proof of employment as a SPD Tech as of January 2013.
3. Experience in sterile processing considered first, operating room environment considered next, all other applicants considered last.
4. Ability to understand and carry out policies and procedures necessary for the position.
5. Has a high degree of accuracy.
6. Possesses the ability to work independently.
7. Ability to move packages and other supply items in a rapid and skillful manner.
8. Must be customer service oriented.
9. Must be organized and have excellent communication skills.

As applicable, the individual has training/competency in attending to the special needs and/or behaviors appropriate to the age of the patients for which care is being provided.
