Job Summary:

The University of Vermont Medical Center (UVMMC) Vice President of Clinical Operations has leadership and operational accountability for a broad scope of clinical operations of the organization. This includes strategic plan development, business plan development and implementation; allocation of resources; leading processes and policies; facilitation across the organization; and translation of organizational goals into actions across the organization. The Vice President of Clinical Operations has management accountability for services that are provided to inpatients and outpatients in the course of clinical care, including laboratory, pharmacy, physical and occupational therapy, speech, audiology, dialysis, apheresis, respiratory therapy, radiology, radiation oncology, endoscopy. This role also has a specific focus area to connect and collaborate teams and processes across the UVMMC Perioperative service-lines both at the system level and local teams. For all departments in the clinical operations scope this role aligns and integrates operational improvement activities and initiatives, workforce models and work processes, and advises key projects and initiatives. Working from the strategic plan, facilitates departmental alignment of goals and deliverables in all pillars of performance: service and clinical quality, workforce recruitment, engagement and development, financial performance, and operational improvement and efficiencies. The Vice President of Clinical Operations reports directly to the President and Chief Operating Officer (COO) of UVMMC. The Vice President of Clinical Operations will have a matrix reporting relationship to the relevant Clinical Service line leaders at the UVMHN and UVMHN Medical Group, hospital partners and communities within our region to ensure work is in alignment with UVMHN initiatives and national best practices.

Education:

Bachelor's degree required or equivalent experience. Master's degree preferred. To competently perform the duties of this position, a knowledge of hospital and healthcare administration, as would traditionally be acquired through graduation from an accredited college with a master's degree in Hospital Administration, Nursing, or similar level degree. Prior experience at administrative levels with exposure to overall hospital management and clinical practice is required.

Experience:

Demonstrated 10 or more years of progressive management ability in providing administrative direction and innovation to clinical departments and programs. Written and verbal communication skills, as well as effective human resource skills are essential. Demonstration of effective leadership skills and experience leading and developing future leaders.

Knowledge/Special Skills:
The successful candidate will be an innovative, strategic and results-oriented leader with a broad vision for the role of Clinical Services in achieving organizational excellence. The candidate must be adept in facilitating difficult discussions, shepherding change, creating and strengthening partnerships and aligning an array of efforts across the organization. In addition, the successful candidate must have:

* A track record of success as a collaborator and relationship builder with strong interpersonal skills and ability to build relationships with a broad range of diverse individuals and groups, including senior executives to achieve results.
* Demonstrated ability to build trust, credibility and navigate complex landscapes including highly matrixed organizations.
* Demonstrated success in identifying and implementing best practices of Clinical Services and an excellent command of modern operational concepts and issues in healthcare.
* Demonstrated success in working collaboratively to develop and implement recruitment and retention strategies focused on building a diverse workforce.
* Exceptional oral and written communication skills with experience in multiple communication modes with the ability to articulate the importance of high value care.
* History of effective leadership in a culture of shared governance.
* Ability to translate metrics, research and trends into discernable strategic initiatives and measurable actions.
* Demonstrated knowledge of financial systems, budgeting and expense management is required.
* Experience with broad large scale change efforts and project management skills.
