Provides professional nursing care to patients in varying states of health and illness. Working closely with the preceptor during the initial orientation period, the Staff Nurse functions as an essential member of nursing and multidisciplinary teams providing direct care to patients and families, teaching, and preparation for continuing care after discharge.
Course Description
UVM Medical Center offers a new graduate residency perioperative nursing course developed byThe Association of Operating Room Nurses (AORN).The purpose of this course is to prepare the registered nurse for entry level practice in perioperative nursing with a focus on intraoperative care. The course consists of a didactic online web based learning modules along with a preceptored clinical experience. Emphasis will be placed on performing functions directly related to circulating and scrubbing in the operating room. A rotation through various services (ENT/Dental, Plastics, General, GYN, GU, daVinci Robotics, CVT, Ortho, Neuro, Eyes, Sports Medicine, and IV Sedation) occurs during this internship.After orientation, the position will include an "On Call" component as well as an off shift rotation. Upon successful completion of the AORN web based course, the intern will receive a certificate of completion and 41.7 CEUs.
